Best Fall Water Activities in New York City

a large body of water

Fall is one of the best times to enjoy the dynamic waterfront New York City has to offer. With the not-too-warm weather, there’s many ways to enjoy the city’s proximity to the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean.

With the warm temperatures of September and October, it’s not too late to enjoy the water any way you can. But, some ways are better than others—that’s why we’ve put together a list of three incredible water-side activities you can do before it gets too cold in New York City.

1.   Sea the City

There is perhaps no better way to enjoy a fun water sport and the New York City Skyline than with a jet ski tour.

The best part of Sea the City is that people of all skill levels can take advantage of our expert instructors and exhilarating training programs. From beginner to expert, there is certainly something for everybody to learn.

2.   Staten Island Ferry

There’s your regular traffic in New York City, then there’s the oceanside traffic. Throughout the day, the Staten Island Ferry ships people back and forth as people come and go from their daily activities.

The ferry is free, and you get a great view of the city, the Statue of Liberty, and more. You can also buy beer, wine, and food on the ferry—for a great price considering the location—so you can sip while you sail!

3.   Coney Island

Long the site of romantic engagements and carnival adventures, Coney Island has hung in the American imagination for decades. With a great pier and two beaches to soak up the ocean air, Coney Island is the definitive New Yorker’s waterside escape.

You also can’t forget one of New York’s most iconic experiences—the Coney Island hot dog!
